Xirrus Teams with Wireless LAN Source for Increased Penetration of the United Kingdom Market with Wins at Landmark Information Group and the Farnborough Aerodrome

April 29th, 2008

Xirrus, Inc., the only Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that can replace Ethernet workgroup switches with Wi-Fi as the primary network connection, announced today its partnership with a leading Wi-Fi partner in the United Kingdom coupled with several significant wins that serve as a wake-up call that traditional Wi-Fi is no longer sufficient for leading enterprises in the United Kingdom market.

“Our customers want to replace Ethernet workgroup switches with Wi-Fi to increase the efficiency of their network and drive down infrastructure costs,” said Ben Wilson, commercial director at Wireless LAN Source. “Xirrus will become the Wi-Fi solution of choice for the enterprise, campus, and manufacturing segments throughout the UK—the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array is the only Wi-Fi device capable of delivering the same performance as a 24- or 48-port Ethernet switch while using far fewer devices, cables, and switch ports than traditional Wi-Fi offerings.”

The Farnborough Aerodrome is home to both the FIVE (Farnborough International Venue and Events) a permanent events venue and, of course, the world’s largest temporary event, the Farnborough International Airshow. Wireless LAN Source were appointed as the official communications provider for the 2008, 2010 and 2012 airshows as well as providing communications on an ongoing basis for the FIVE venue. Once appointed Wireless LAN Source knew the only product that would provide a powerful campus-wide indoor and outdoor 802.11a/b/g network to support the tens of thousands of concurrent attendees and exhibitors utilizing high bandwidth voice, video, and data applications was the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array.

Landmark Information Group, the United Kingdom’s leading supplier of digital mapping, property, and environmental risk information needed a robust Wi-Fi network capable of supporting and separating voice and data traffic via high performance 802.11a/b/g/n for over 200 clients. Wireless LAN Source deployed the Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays giving Landmark the coverage, bandwidth, and throughput needed while deploying 31 fewer Wi-Fi devices and 75% fewer cables—making the installation and management far easier than competitive offerings.

“The demands placed on these high profile customers are tremendous—Wireless LAN Source understands these demands and has selected the Wi-Fi solution to meet those challenges,” said Chris Allen, Regional Sales Manager for Xirrus. “With the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array, customers can now ditch the Ethernet workgroup switch—install a wireless network with wired-equivalent performance and security.”

Total View’s Jeff Gray taking care of business

Jeff Gray of Total View monitoring CCTV

The importance of CCTV for crowd management and safety at todays large events is becoming a significant factor in securing licensing, the support of local authorities, law enforcement and emergency services. As liability becomes more of a concern the ability to access archived footage is also critical. The system we designed for Total View meets all these requirements and is flexible and robust enough to withstand the rigours of a touring environment.

In addition to crowd management and safety the system was used to deliver voice and internet services for key production staff and the artists themselves. In most cases we had Internet and Telephony service up and running within an hour of arriving on site. Users were able to access the Internet using WiFi at multiple locations and kept the same Direct Dial number for the whole tour.

Our thanks to Matt Doherty and Jeff Gray of Total View for asking us to deliver such an advanced system and inviting me over to Australia to work on the system’s maiden outing. My personal thanks to Oliver Carswell and Stu Duffield for their work on tour. Big thanks also go to Kate Stewart and the whole Big Day Out family for looking after “The Geeks”.

Xirrus Deployed at ITU Geneva

September 14th, 2007

Taken From TMCnet
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has purchased Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays, Management System and Security Modules for deployment throughout the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG). Xirrus will enable ITU to support a worldwide conference expected to attract more than 2,000 participants in October 2007.
Pradeep Prasad, head Infrastructure Division, International Telecommunication Union said that their company chose Xirrus because they were best able to meet the rigorous requirements to support their upcoming conferences. Prasad expects the capacity, coverage and upgradeability to 802.11n will enable ITU to deploy a scalable, long-lasting Wi-Fi infrastructure at the CICG.
“We are excited to be deployed at such an historic location as the International Conference Center in Geneva,” said John DiGiovanni, regional director of sales and marketing for EMEA at Xirrus in a statement.
DiGiovanni points out that they were able to provide them with the equipment they needed for a future-proof Wi-Fi network and expressed their company’s commitment to deliver the most technologically advanced and powerful Wi-Fi solution worldwide.
The state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network is designed by Wireless LAN Source, Xirrus’ pan-European partner. The network will support the users that frequent the CICG and will utilize many of Xirrus’ advanced features, including its patent-pending Sharp Cell technology. The company is currently preparing and installing the Xirrus Wi-Fi network. The installation and cabling support is provided by Sedelec SA.
Ben Wilson, commercial director at Wireless LAN Source said that they designed a fully manageable and high-performing Wi-Fi network for the CICG, ensuring the network will be able to support the thousands of users that utilize the landmark facility.
“Xirrus has a proven track record of deploying in large-scale, high-density locations like the CICG, and we are honored to be a part of this deployment,” he added.

Wireless LAN Source, We Love 2 Talk & Titan Technology

September 6th, 2007

The “We Love 2 Talk” service from Wireless LAN Source was tested to death over this summer at all the festivals, the support from our wholesale provider, Titan Technology was absolutely critical to our success.

My thanks to the whole team at Titan. You can read more in the press release below from Titan.

————————————

Leading telephony solutions provider Titan Technology Limited, will be rocking and rolling at this year’s music festivals after being appointed to work with Wireless Events Ltd during the summer season.

Pipecentric is Titan Technology’s hosted VOIP service and this is the first year that festivals have chosen to go Hosted. Pipecentric will be providing Hosted Voice solutions at many of this year’s festivals including Glastonbury, Leeds, Oxygen, T in the Park, Reading, V and many more.

Warwickshire based Titan began work last weekend as they successfully brought Isle of Wight, the oldest festival in the country, into the digital age.

The company was founded in 1996 to service SME’s with all telephony solutions including mobiles, broadband, line rental etc. In 2004 Titan recognised that IP telephony would eventually replace conventional telephony and became an early adopter of this technology. It is this experience that makes them a leader in hosted IP telephony and has resulted in their fast growth and ability to deal with complex projects such as these.

Jeremy Rollinson, Director at Wireless Events Ltd said, “Working with Titan and Pipecentric for Isle of Wight festival made everything so easy. We were able to install 8 broadband lines as opposed to having to find time to install more than 30 land lines which would have to have been done historically. It was certainly a challenge taking things VOIP but it went smoothly and I am looking forward to tackling the even bigger festivals over the summer now!”

Rob Murdoch, sales director at Titan technology Ltd said, ” Over the next three years it is estimated that more than 50% of corporate telecommunication will be run over IP networks – this is a classic example of that shift. There are massive benefits for festivals going VOIP - not least that it takes far less time than using traditional land lines and the fact that substantial cost savings will be made. We were thrilled to be able to support Wireless Events Ltd and are really looking forward to rest of the summer!”

Liverpool Women’s Hospital

September 6th, 2007

Wireless LAN Source have successfully deployed a hospital wide wifi network for Europe’s largest Women’s Hospital.

Our bid was successful due to our specialist wireless expertise and the selection of the Xirrus wireless array system as our proposed solution. This is the first NHS contract for Wireless LAN Source and Xirrus, an important achievement in a highly competitive market.

Our solution was selected above strong competition from Cisco, Aruba, Trapeze and Colubris.

Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays deliver the highest performance, longest range Wi-Fi in the industry. The Xirrus solution delivers 2X the range, 4X the coverage area and 14X the throughput of typical “commercial grade” access points. This means you deploy 75% fewer devices, cabling, switch ports, and significantly reduces installation time compared to any competitive solution available today.

Wireless LAN Source are offering free detailed site surveys for anyone interested in deploying a high quality wireless network. Please contact Ben Wilson or Ian Davison on 0207 9930270 for further details.

Summer of Mud & Wellies

September 6th, 2007

It’s been a very busy summer for us here at Wireless LAN Source. With our partner company Wireless Events we have provided Voice and Internet services to most of the major festivals in the UK and Ireland.

Providing a multi-service wired and wireless network in an office building is challenging in itself, the engineering team from Wireless LAN Source successfully deployed services at all of the following events;

  • RAF Spirit of Adventure
  • Isle of Wight Festival
  • Glastonbury Festival
  • T in the Park
  • Oxegen
  • RHS Tatton park Flower Show
  • V Festival (Chelmsford & Weston park)
  • Carling Leeds festival
  • Carling Reading Festival
  • Red Hot Chilli Peppers @ Hampden Park Stadium
  • T on the Fringe
  • Connect Festival

At each event we deployed a Wireless outdoor backbone network to service each area of the site. This wireless backbone was used to deploy basic Internet services as well as VPN connectivity for ticketing, supporting companies such as See Tickets and Ticketmaster.

Broadband connections were supplied by our ISP division “We Love Broadband” using our low contention, QoS enabled premium DSL connections.

The Voice platform is completely VoIP based using a hybrid of fully hosted phones and the Zultys IP PBX which supported analogue redundancy and full emergency services features. The hosted services and IP trunks were all serviced via our VoIP services platform “We Love 2 Talk”, which can deliver fully featured hosted VoIP handsets as well as IP trunk connectivity.

Wireless Events is able to deliver business class Internet and Voice services for any event in the UK & Europe. If you require further information please contact us.
